Party Wall Damp
When you share a wall with a neighbour you are legally required to ask their permission before carrying out any work on that wall on your side.
If they refuse permission you can appoint a Party Wall Surveyor to act on your behalf. This person will be an independant qualified Surveyor and will charge a fee.
Party walls commonly suffer from:
1. Dampness - usually caused by water leanks
2. Rot - usually in skirting boards, joists and flooring - again, usually caused by water leaks
3. Condensation and mold growth - usually caused by water leaks
4. Salting - usually caused by water leaks
So, a new damp proof course or coats of Tanking products will not solve these problems - leak detection is the priority.
Try to arrange a visit next door - take photos, meter readings and take notes.
